New Year New Me

As the new year approaches, we all strive to establish a New Year's resolution, something that will enhance our lives. However, in reality, this fresh start typically lasts only about a month. The reason behind this short-lived enthusiasm is that when we set our goals, we fail to strategically break them down into a realistic approach that can lead to success. There are numerous challenges that we encounter when attempting to bring about change. Now, let's explore three specific obstacles to change and explore strategies to overcome them.

The initial obstacle is laziness. We often desire everything to effortlessly come our way. We are reluctant to put in the effort required to overcome this laziness, which leads us to default to unproductive actions when we are bored or lazy. Therefore, we should strive to transform our default settings into something productive, so that when we choose an option, it truly benefits us.

The second challenge we encounter is our tendency to be impulsive. As humans, we often get distracted by shiny new objects and seek instant gratification instead of putting in the effort for long-term success. We often choose fun over boring, which is not necessarily a negative trait. However, when we want to make a change, these desired activities may not initially excite us. To overcome this obstacle, we must discover ways to infuse excitement into our chosen pursuits.

Lastly, we must overcome inertia by taking action and getting started. Inertia refers to the tendency to do nothing or remain unchanged. Once we establish a small momentum, it becomes easier to continue and stick to the current state, even if it doesn't align perfectly with our goals. The important thing is to begin, as the start is what truly matters. By initiating change and breaking free from old patterns, we can carve a new path and solidify the new changes. The power of inertia will then drive our commitment forward. Remember, it's not just about how you start, but also when you start. The timing can greatly impact the creation of a new groove.

DSSS LEARNING MODEL

  1. Deconstruction- Break down the immense skill you are attempting to master into smaller, manageable parts by acquiring knowledge of the individual elements of this skill. This approach will not only enhance your abilities, but also alleviate the feeling of being overwhelmed.

  2. Selection- The importance lies in what we learn rather than how we learn it. Selecting the right aspects to concentrate on is crucial in the learning process. By being discerning within a specific task or scope, we ensure that we prioritize the most significant elements.

  3. Sequencing- Arranging these tasks in the correct sequence will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by the task's complexity or scale. By focusing on one small micro-skill at a time, you can systematically build upon your knowledge and skills.

  4. Stakes- When embarking on a journey to acquire new knowledge, we usually begin with good intentions, persevering through the uncomfortable and initial phases of learning. However, it is crucial to establish a sense of accountability when setting goals or tasks. This is because when we encounter obstacles or reach a plateau in our progress, we must real-world consequence so we wont give up easily.
